It's been quite a ride lately at the girlstalktoboys headquarters. I've been swirling around and it's made me a bit dizzy, but don't you worry I may be a little dizzy but I'm still standing! Our crowdfunding campaign has now come to an end and even though we didn't make our goal, it was still a success as we raised £5200. Yes we still need way more, but at least it was a good start. And it helped bring more brand awareness to our small business.
So what's next for us. Well, we keep on trucking away. SS17 samples are in the works. AW16 production is underway and fingers crossed everyone loves the new collection at Dot to Dot London in June and Playtime Paris in July. I'm not going to lie, I lay awake at night worrying about doing this all right. But I'm learning as I go and hoping, praying that eventually I have a solid business. This business isn't my hobby, it's my passion that I want to turn into a profitable business hoping it ads a bit of quirky-coolness to the kids world.
I am doing this all on my own. It's hard, but I know I'm strong and I just keep at it. Would I like a business partner? Absolutely, but with these kind of things, it has to be the right match. And unfortunately, I haven't found my heavenly match yet. Maybe one day I will and we can take over the world, but in the meantime, I will continue to try to take over the world on my own, one day at a time.
I do encourage all you mama's out there and non-mamas to not be afraid to go for what you want. I'm not saying it's easy, if it was everyone would be doing it. But if you're up for a challenge, then start now! Start writing your ideas down and researching the hell out of what them. Make sure you know your target market. The more you inform yourself the better, then you can go into your business feeling somewhat confident. You will learn so much along the way. For me, I learned a lot of what not to do and to be very clear and firm about what you want. If you don't communicate it, it won't happen properly.
I've been very insecure in my talents, not sure if I would be good enough to do it, but what I'm learning is that I must give it a go see what I come up with and then get someone to perfect it for me. Some of the best advice I have received is, you can't do it all yourself, stick with what you are good at and get others to help you. If you want to do it all yourself, great, then allow yourself the time and once your business grows then you can start to bring on people you trust.
I'm writing this because it's what's on my mind and I know there are many of you out there that are not sure where to start or how to start. Believe me, I totally understand. I'm not one to keep knowledge to myself. I want to help others find their feet in their new venture. I've been very lucky to have some good advice. I still do not have all the answers, but the more you keep asking people questions, the more information you gain.
I've been attending the Mothers Meetings Meet-ups and they have been a dream, because I am meeting so many amazing women out there that want to do something special, that want to provide for their families. Together we can offer each other help, advice and knowledge.
Anyways, there you go. If you every want to meet up for a coffee and share ideas, please give me a shout!
